Senior Property Lawyer (6+ PAE)

An opportunity for an experienced property lawyer to lead and grow a specialist mortgagee sales practice within a leading national commercial law firm.

1 The Firm
A major national commercial firm with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra. With around 800 partners and staff, the firm offers a dynamic, collaborative and client‑focused environment. Its Resolutions, Recoveries and Disputes team manages national financial services recoveries and has a well established mortgagee residential and commercial real property sales practice. Team members benefit from sophisticated national resources and a culture grounded in transparency, respect and accountability.

2 The Role
The firm seeks an experienced property lawyer (6+ years PAE) to lead its mortgagee sales practice across residential and commercial matters. Reporting into the broader Resolutions, Recoveries and Disputes group, you will:
• Supervise, mentor and develop paralegals and conveyancers
• Allocate matters, manage workflow and oversee quality outcomes
• Provide clear guidance on priorities, escalation and risk management
• Manage end‑to‑end mortgagee sales across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensure compliance with legislation, court rules, lender requirements and internal protocols
• Identify and manage legal, commercial and reputational risk
• Act as escalation point for complex matters
• Lead strategic growth of the mortgagee sales practice and identify new opportunities
• Develop and refine processes, precedents and workflows for efficiency and scalability
• Play an active role in client development and relationship management
• Act as a key point of contact for lender clients and external stakeholders, providing timely, commercially focused advice
Full time or part time (minimum 4 days per week).

3 The Candidate
You will bring strong technical property expertise, commercial judgement and leadership capability, including:
• Admission in Australia with 6+ years PAE
• Experience in residential and commercial property sales, ideally including mortgagee or distressed sales
• Solid understanding of relevant legal frameworks, including tax treatment and complexities across jurisdictions
• Ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes
• Strong organisational skills in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment
• Confident, solutions‑focused communication and stakeholder management
• Experience mentoring juniors (desirable)
• Proactive mindset with interest in process improvement and innovation
• Collaborative approach and commitment to a high‑performing team culture
• Part time applicants (4+ days) encouraged.
