The Role
The firm is seeking 2 lawyers (Associate through to Special Counsel level) to join its Abuse & Public Liability team AND its Construction & Professional Indemnity teams in Sydney.
Working closely with experienced senior practitioners, the successful candidates will manage a diverse defendant-side caseload involving:
  • Institutional abuse claims
  • General public liability and personal injury matters
  • Sensitive client interactions and trauma-informed practice
  • Liability assessment, investigations, and reporting
  • Preparing advices, drafting court documents, and managing litigation
  • Liaising with insurers, government departments, and external stakeholders
  • Collaborating with colleagues across insurance, health, litigation, and risk teams
The role offers exposure to both complex abuse matters and broader public liability work, with no more than approximately 50% of the workload focused on abuse files.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Minimum 2 years’ PAE in abuse law or sensitive claims work or general insurance experience (essential)
  • A current NSW practising certificate
  • Experience acting on the defendant insurance side (highly regarded)
  • Strong litigation skills and the ability to manage a busy file load
  • Excellent written communication and drafting skills
  • A trauma-informed approach, empathy, and professionalism
  • Ability to build rapport with insurer clients and external stakeholders
  • Collaborative working style and commitment to team culture
