The organisation operates within the Government sector, focusing on national security, cyber, and justice policy.

About the role

Join a specialist policy team working at the centre of New Zealand's national security, cyber and justice systems. The team partners with groups across the organisation and with other agencies to shape policy and legislative change on issues that matter. It's a broad portfolio base, which means real variety and real influence.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide sound, senior-level policy advice across a broad portfolio set
  • Deliver second-opinion policy advice to very tight timeframes
  • Support policy and legislative change across the security and justice sectors
  • Contribute to the current work programme, including courts reform and national security initiatives
  • Advise on national security matters including counter terrorism and foreign interference
  • Advise on cyber matters including cyber-crime and cyber security
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal groups and other agencies
  • Mentor and support other team members as required

Skills & experience

  • Already working at senior policy advisor II level, or an experienced senior I ready to step up
  • The full senior policy advisor skill-set, with depth across security, justice or cyber portfolios
  • Comfortable working at pace and producing sound advice under tight timeframes
  • Builds strong relationships and trust, and is experienced at having the hard conversations
  • A mature outlook, a genuine team player, and able to mentor others
  • Open to applying for national security clearances (highly desirable, not essential)
