This is a unique opportunity to specialise in welfare matters before the Court of Protection, working within a supportive, collaborative department known for excellence in community care, public law, and housing law.
About the Role:
You’ll take on a varied caseload focused primarily on Court of Protection (Welfare) work, representing vulnerable clients including those lacking capacity, often instructed via the Official Solicitor or family members. You will also have the opportunity to support broader public law and community care matters alongside highly experienced colleagues.
With strong referral networks already in place and more demand than the team can currently meet, this is an excellent opportunity to grow and shape your practice area with full support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of Court of Protection (Welfare) matters independently
- Represent “P” via litigation friend or family members in welfare proceedings
- Deliver legal services to clients with empathy and clarity
- Meet legal aid requirements and accurately record and bill time
- Maintain strong relationships with local charities and referral partners
- Stay current with legal developments and contribute to departmental growth
- At least 1 year PQE with demonstrable experience in Court of Protection (Welfare) law
- Strong knowledge of legal aid procedures and CCMS; private funding experience desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled in advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving
- Committed to delivering access to justice for vulnerable individuals
- Able to work under pressure and meet targets
- Holds a current practising certificate
