I Am Smart Enough to Know I Am Not Smart Enough

Manda Milling • September 30, 2015

Back in 2005, when we were in the process of setting up people2people, we were searching for our new office. We soon found out that we knew a lot about filling jobs and helping people with their careers but very little about anything else (well, that's not exactly true, but you know what I mean).

We were time and knowledge poor and, well, just poor. So we outsourced the search for our new premises and the subsequent lease negotiations! What? If we had so little money to spend, why throw good money after bad by paying someone?

It was the best money we could have spent, and now, ten years later, having opened new and left old offices about five times, we would never have had the ability to locate such great locations with such favourable terms (particularly the make good clause at the end of the leases, which can be a killer) if we hadn't called in the experts. We not only saved money but a lot – and I mean a lot – of time. We were able to concentrate on the things we knew we could do well, such as develop and expand our business. It's an easy trap to fall into, and we all do it, believing that the false economy of saving a few dollars up front will benefit you in the medium to long term. More and more, Australia is becoming a services based economy.

For example, do you get your car washed?

Do you have a cleaner at home? Do you buy your coffee on your way to work? Do you buy your lunch every day? Do your kids attend swim classes? If you answered yes to any of these questions (and they are only a very small sample – I haven't even touched on the financial bonanza of Saturday and Sunday breakfasts!), you are outsourcing. Because you are busy, and/or not that confident in your coffee making or cleaning abilities, or you just don't like to do any of the above, you recognise that there are specialists out there who can provide you with the convenience of this service, quicker and with more ability, than you can. Because that's all they do all day, every day. Recruitment is what we do all day, every day.

We provide an outsourced service because businesses and the people who work in them don't have the time, the knowledge or frankly the desire, to have to put down what they should be doing and divert their attention to source, screen and chase hard to find talent. So whether you are tucking into your Saturday or Sunday breakfast in your favourite café or calling people2people (hopefully not on the same day), you are benefiting from an outsourced service. We look forward to hearing from you!
