Which Areas Of Law Have Been Positively Impacted During Covid-19?

Default Author • November 15, 2020

The Legal sector enjoyed continued growth throughout 2019, with a number of national firms expanding their presence across the country. In 2020, throughout the pandemic, legal firms have reported that they remained busy, except for transactional areas.

We have seen a number of firms focus on increasing marketing and business development activities, which has been reflected in our national recruitment team seeing an increase in these types of roles, along with IT support. We surveyed a number of top tier, mid tier and boutique legal firms to see what areas of law have been positively impacted by Covid -19.

The results are as followed:

Commercial Litigation and Disputes 42%·
Property and Planning 24%·
Insurance Litigation 18% ·
Family Law 16%·
Employment 11% ·
Construction 11%

As a recruitment agency, we have been briefed on a high number of roles within Insurance and Personal Injury, across Defendant and Plaintiff firms. Since surveying our legal firms in August 2020, we have noticed a peak in roles within Property and Conveyancing and Family Law. A number of legal firms have reported their best quarters of the year, since the commencement of the pandemic.

As we move into the last quarter of 2020, we suspect Employment Law will peak, as JobKeeper payments begin to decrease over the coming months into early 2021.
