The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an Associate or Senior Associate to join the Workers Compensation practice within the Insurance division. This permanent position involves managing a diverse defendant Workers Compensation caseload, with a particular focus on WID claims. The successful candidate will work closely with 2 highly regarded Principals, contributing to strategy discussions and mentoring junior lawyers. The role will initially be based predominantly in the Chatswood office for the first 6 months, followed by a flexible arrangement between Chatswood and Sydney offices, with 1-2 days working from home. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a varied defendant Workers Compensation file load
- Providing clear, commercially focused advice to insurer and government clients
- Representing clients at mediations, conferences, and court proceedings
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers (for Senior Associate level)
- Meeting a target of seven billable hours per day while maintaining quality and efficiency
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor of Laws and a current NSW practising certificate
- Minimum 4yrs PAE with strong defendant Workers Compensation expertise
- In-depth knowledge of NSW statutory schemes, WID claims, and Workers Compensation legislation
- Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills
- A commercial mindset and ability to engage effectively with insurer and government clients
- Experience mentoring junior staff (for Senior Associate level)
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment
