3 tips to improve your CV in 2023

New year, new you, new job? Whether you are considering taking the next step in your career, or moving into a new job, it is vital to nail the basics. Your CV is the first contact that you have with a potential employer, and it is important to make a good first impression. With the job market as busy as ever in 2023, here are some great tips to help improve your CV and stand out.

Tailor your CV to the job role that you are applying for
When applying for a new job, your potential new employers are wanting to see how your skills and experience would match the specific role they've searching to fill. By tailoring your resume to the job, you are showing them that you're a serious candidate, and that you really want to work for them. Most recruiters will be able to spot a generic CV a mile off. Making a few alterations before sending in your application may take a bit more time, but it will greatly strengthen your chances as it will be more relevant to the job.

If you have redundancy's from COVID layoffs, should you include them in your CV?
Absolutely you should include any redundancy in your CV. During the COVID pandemic, there was a lot of people in the same boat as yourself, where companies drastically cut back their staffing costs due to the uncertainty of what was to come. Transparency is key in this situation and being able to clearly explain your layoffs from previous employment is important. It shouldn’t impact your chances of getting the job, and if nothing else helps illustrate your skills and experience even more.

Ensure the dates are correct and in chronological order.
When listing all your previous employment history, it is important to list them by date from most recent to earliest. Doing this allows your recruiter to have a good, clean overview of your employment history in chronological order. It helps create a timeline of your achievements and experience to see if you would be suitable for the job you are applying for.
